For decades, John Ellis has campaigned for peace, nuclear disarmament, and social justice. During this time, John photographed much of the activity of the left in Melbourne.
His collection––held by the University of Melbourne Archives––is a remarkable resource, and the largest individual collection of photographs of the left in Australia.
This year, the Campaign for International Cooperation and Disarmament (CICD)––an organisation John has been involved with for over 57 years––will celebrate John’s life and achievements.
The event will be held on Sunday 3 April, 2.00 pm, at the Unitarian Peace Memorial Church, 110 Grey St, East Melbourne.
In addition to a performance by the Victorian Trade Union Choir, speakers include Peter Love, Sarah Brown, Sue Fairbanks, Shane Houstein, Romina Beitseen, and John Ellis.
Please RSVP (by 30 March 2016) to Romina Beitseen
A small biographical sketch of John’s life, written by Peter Love to celebrate John’s 80th birthday, can be read in Recorder, no. 265.
