Entered printing trades, 1905 as apprentice to lithography with Melbourne firm P.C. Grosser, joining Victorian Litho Printers Union 1912. (Union later became APTEUA). Rejected for military service during WW I due to diminutive stature. Highly experienced in various printing equipment, using perhaps the first Mann offset machine in Melbourne. Employed by Argus in 1950 when world’s first multi-coloured daily newspaper printed by rotary lithographic process.

8 August 1950 became full-time secretary of Victorian branch APTEUA, operating without secretarial assistance and conducting union meetings at his home before union purchased premises in Drummond Street, Carlton. Member of Printing Trades Committee of Victorian Apprenticeship Commission for 17 years, also Graphic Arts Board of Reference for similar period. As Federal vice-president APTEUA, sought amalgamation with other printing union (PIEUA) which brought Printing and Kindred Trades Union into being, 1966. Worked as assistant to Secretary Victorian Branch PKIU, retired 1968.
